8 Last-Minute Holiday Gifts for Job Seekers |
By Tony Morrison Don't panic. The last shopping weekend before Hanukkah and Christmas may have come and gone, but it's not too late to snatch up some last-minute presents for the job seeker in your life. Sometimes, finding that right gift can be a real struggle. However, there are plenty of options out there! Check out these 8 last-minute holiday gifts for job seekers: Something to seek Why not hit the nail on the head and give the job seeker in your life something that will help them find a job? Introduce them to some professional contacts and friends and start a small networking group online to help them jump start their networking for the new year. Something to be professional Job seekers of all levels want to be as professional and polished as possible in their search. For younger seekers or folks returning to the job search after a break, consider buying a consultation with a certified resume writer or a new portfolio to make them look even better on the job hunt. Any job seeker would appreciate a nice pen or professional stationary for the thank you notes they'll be writing. Something to be organized An organized job search is an efficient job search, so consider giving something that can get an otherwise messy job seeker organized. Agendas might be old-fashioned, but are a popular tool for many seekers today. Also, think about a desk organizer to enhance their workstation. Something to get going There's a reason why "pounding the pavement" is a euphemism for the job search. Job seekers travel a lot to get hired. A gas card, metro pass, or even airline miles can be a huge help in the search. Something to look spiffy ???Everyone loves new clothes, so why not buy something new for that oh-so-important interview or meeting they have coming up? A new tie or shirt can make or break an outfit. If you're unsure, try a gift card for a popular clothing store so they can shop their own look. Something to relax We all know how stressful the job search can be. Nothing is worse than that feeling of the unknown that unemployment brings. Any job seeker can appreciate the gift of an hour-long massage, a set of relaxing teas, or an inspirational book. And, for the adrenaline junkie who cannot relax unless they are going 140 mph on fire, try helicopter flying lessons (hint-hint), a day on the slopes shredding powder moguls, or bungee jumping. Something to have fun Even job seekers need to take their mind of things every once in a while. Give a fun gift like a funny movie or a board game everyone can play. Something with you Last but not least, the job search can be a really lonely time. Be part of your job seeker's support network by asking them out to lunch, offering to help look over an application or two, and just listening. Not all gifts have to cost money. Companionship can be better than anything wrapped. What do you think? What other gifts would you give to the job seekers in your life? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
