Los Angeles-area parents continue to be rocked by accusations that teachers in the city's school system have engaged students in sexual acts.

As the Los Angeles Times reports, a seventh L.A. school employee has been arrested, following an incident in which it's alleged he had sex with a 17-year-old female student last September.

Corey Hogan (pictured), a 32-year-old band director at George Washington Preparatory High School, was taken into custody Monday after the student and her mother told police that the girl agreed to have sex with Hogan at his home in suburban Hawthorne, police told the newspaper.

The alleged sexual encounter happened during football season, after Hogan offered to give the girl -- a student at a nearby charter school -- and some other students a ride home. After the others were dropped off, the girl reportedly agreed to go to Hogan's home, according to Hawthorne police.

Law enforcement officials said they also found incriminating text messages between Hogan and the girl, whom Hogan met when her dance team performed at a Washington High football game, Los Angeles TV station KTLA reports.

Hogan was booked on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. He was released Tuesday after posting bail, KABC-TV says.

As the Times notes, Hogan's arrest follows a number of others recently in which Los Angeles Unified School District teachers and employees have been accused of sex-related acts.

Among those arrested was Mark Berndt, a former teacher at Miramonte Elementary School, who has been charged with photographing blindfolded and gagged students there as they were allegedly fed spoonfuls of his semen.

Police say the publicity generated from such arrests is leading more students to come forward to report unlawful acts, but officials don't believe more abuse is occurring.

"As a community, people are coming together and are hyper-vigilant about any other perpetrators. Everything is now being reported," Pia Escudero, who directs the L.A. school district's mental health and crisis counseling services, told the Times last week.
