Chick-fil-A Cashier Fired For Mocking Asian Customers |
|
There's no shortage of consumers who love the tasty sandwiches served up by fast-food chain Chick-fil-A. But a recent incident in Southern California showed poor taste on the part of a cashier who mocked two Asian customers. According to the Los Angeles Times, rather than typing the consumers' actual names, the employee instead noted their names as "Ching" and "Chong" on the receipts. Photos of the receipts were posted on a Tumblr account belonging to University of California, Irvine, student Kelvin Lee, a friend of the customers. The post then spread through the blogosphere, attracting more negative attention to the Atlanta-based company, which is already under fire by some groups for its openly Christian roots and connection to conservative stances, the Times notes. Chick-fil-A's lack of political correctness didn't escape Lee, who posted this comment on his Tumblr page shortly after the incident: "I realize Chick-fil-A hasn't exactly had the best track record when it comes to issues of social justice, but I don't think the horrible mistake on the part of one individual is reason enough to launch a witch hunt." For it's part, Chick-fil-A, through a spokesman, told the Times that the employee's actions in no way represent the views of the company and blamed it on a lack of maturity on the part of the cashier, who was fired shortly afterward. Still, Lee says, "There's no way the person who hired this woman would have been able to know she'd do something so stupid."
